Master Hong brought this style of tai chi to Australia in 1966.
Local Melburnians had never heard of tai chi at that time. He jokingly told them that this is a form of oriental ballet or shadow boxing.
Practising this form of taichi, Master Hong has maintained his youthfulness. His voice and agility have hardly changed over the last 55 years.
He has retained the names and movements of this form all this years, excepted for 南海推手法。我把平圆,立圆,双八單推法及吳式太极拳的七星步混合一起,以方便螳螂拳及摔角用法.
Master Hong advises that this form can easily be practised at home in conjunction with the qigong breathing exercises.
Short form demonstration. This simplied version contains about 30 movements from the original 108 movements.
Short form demonstration performed on 17/7/2023 at Mitchell plateau, Kimberley WA. This simplified Yang style taichi was performed on a small piece of slippery rock seated amongst pools of
calm and turbulent waters.
The performance was observed by many small black fishes swimming within the moving shadows casted by Master Boon Hung Hong.
This tai chi shadow boxing performance illustrates the martial arts principles of tai chi, ie, 柔中带剛,以柔克刚,动中求静 ,
meaning 'having internal hardness while displaying softness of external movements, overcoming external hardness with one's softness, and seeking tranquility while moving'.

The following are the names of sword movements for the Dragon and Phoenix Double Swords (龙鳯双劍).

Hsing Yi Group Practice Demonstration 001.
This is 形意五行拳or 岳家五行拳 It consists of five basic martial art movements 劈,崩,攒,炮,横 and 狸猫上樹.
I have added one more move at the end 反攒。These are the basic components of all different styles of modern 形意拳.
They originated more than a thousand years ago 岳飞将军(南宋). The Sung dynasty used them to train their front line soldiers.
Sticks or spears can be used with the movements and stances to face against the advancing enemy.
New recruits only need a short training period for them to be proficient in warfare.
Some historical notes and vintage videos leading to our current IYSTA Master Chang Tung Sheng created the first generation of our IYSTA taichi form. Chang Tung Sheng was able to use inputs from four common styles by five different masters at the Nanjing Martial Arts Acadaemy.
No one, then, was able to beat master Chang Tung Sheng in real combat.
Please refer to the attached video below, taken more than 70 years ago.
